Weekend at Lakes Entrance

Image
A weekend away at Lakes Entrance, 6 friends made up of 3 couples, coinciding on my birthday weekend. Stopped at Warragul Thai which was delicious and well priced. Then crabbing on a fine afternoon with a few minutes of soaking rain. All for a good haul of sweet sand crabs, later oven baked with duck fat. Mm mm.

Thailand, Singapore, and back to Australia

At end 2014 we took three weeks off for a holiday; one week in Thailand and two weeks in Singapore. So here goes: ^^ In Bangkok we stayed at  Chatrium Residence  which we thought was a hotel, but turned out to be serviced apartments, which was fine with us. We arrived at night so not many shops were open and we couldn't explore much, but there were some street stalls nearby so we started our holiday with how you should eat in Asia (most of the time) – unhealthy but delicious street food! We shared an Oyster Omelette and Pad Thai. Great start! Haha. On our first real day there we met Ian's old high school friend for lunch, and bought a daily train ticket to get around. The train is similar to Singapore's train system and was easy to navigate.  We shopped at the popular and huge Chatuchak weekend market. Of course we didn't cover the whole place – it was too huge! We bought lots of t-shirts and shops with listed fixed prices so we didn't have to bothe...

Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance

Since a public holiday was coming up on a Monday, we decided to take a trip somewhere over the long weekend! The nice thing about Australia is that it's easy to go on road trips anytime. You can just load up your car, and drive wherever. There are plenty of information centres along the way to help you plan your trip, and part of the drive usually has beautiful scenery.  It's different from living in Singapore where the nearby places are more affordable. At those place you can eat and shop for half or a quarter of the price needed in Singapore. But still, all's good and fun. ^ So off we went! Pardon our dirty window but – I loved this part of the drive. Not main roads, and tall trees lining the way and providing shade. It reminds me of one of the roads around Upper Thomson Road in Singapore where trees line the way like this as well, just that the trees are shorter and thicker. ^ ^ Some of the trees had orange leaves. I'm not sure if it's becaus...

Bendigo

Refreshing little weekend trips. Mm mm. This time, it was Bendigo! It's about a 2 hour drive, north west from Melbourne. The trip was pretty random in that we just made short detours to little towns along the way, before checking in at Quality Inn Colonial . Apparently, Bendigo is a very kid-friendly town, with quite a few attractions for kids such as taking the "Talking Tram" and a cave mining experience. Here are some things we did, just in case you think of visiting one day:  ^ If you are going by Bendigo, I would really recommend The Woodhouse , especially if you love woodfired pizza. If you go on a Friday or Saturday night, it would be a good idea to book because the place was almost packed, and the waiter told us that it was "slow"for a Saturday night. ^ ^ The pizza was ~A$21 which is reasonable for a nice place. The meat mains are more expensive. ^ ^ The Food and Wine Expo happened to be in Bendigo that weekend, so. ^ ...
