Gluten free . Coeliac . It was when I came to Australia that I first heard those words. And then I kept hearing it, and hearing it. People who have coeliac, or celiac, have immune systems which don't react well to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats. Many restaurants here cater to people who require a gluten free diet because it is that common. Over time, I started hearing about more people with different allergies. A story of a kid who can't have nuts or peanut butter, another story of a kid who can't have nuts, dairy, gluten and some other stuff, and schools which decide to ban things like peanut butter and nuts altogether because some kids have allergies so bad that if you touched peanut butter then touched the kid, the kid would go into anaphylaxis. I was reading this book which referenced the woman at the well from the Bible and it said she found Jesus, or rather He found her. Now I'm not one to think too deeply about eh intricacies and theology or Calvinism or any of that, but when I read that I though, wow – in the midst of all people Jesus found her. In the middle of a crowd He found her, specifically her. It means she must have been special, she must have stood out somehow, there must have been something for Jesus to have found her. And what a joy and delight, to be found by Jesus.
A Facebook Page has been set up to campaign against Ashley Madison from setting up shop in Singapore from 2014. Ashley Madison is a company that encourages adultery, encouraging casual encounters and extramarital affairs. Read more at the Facebook Page . To show support and my stand, I've "liked" the Page. It's a small act, but a way I know to raise my voice; a tiny voice in the crowd, but still, a voice. One person commented on the page that it is of no use to campaign, because we campaigned against casinos but casinos were built in Singapore in the end. I disagree. Just because the main goal did not score does not mean nothing happened. A lot would have happened "in the field". In the process, Singaporeans were brought to awareness of the casino situation and what was actually happening. Because there was hype, some people thought more about the situation and what it actually meant to them. So back to Ashley Madison. I know about this...
