Toilet bowl moments

I reckon some best times of ruminating are done while on the toilet bowl, especially when it is pang sai time (cos it's longer). Think about it. We go through our lives in such a rush, sometimes barely stopping to really wonder, think, dream, ask, seek, be curious... In such times, toilet bowl moments are great. Those are times when you are forced to sit down, with nothing to distract you (unless you choose to reply your sms-es or read a book then). But well, I hope our lives will not be so busy that we will have to rely on "toilet bowl moments" for some reflecting. Though well, I do enjoy my moments too. hurhur. :) *Add: Jian reminds me that showers make good thinking time too. Yes I agree. If not for Australia's water restrictions, I would do this more – sit in the shower, let the water run down, soak . :)

Explaining to Lynette about the kind of relationship my brother and I share... he knows we talk this way it's awesome it's why i love talking to my brother we can talk TOTAL nonsense (i kid you not) and both know when we are actually nonsensing and nonsense with each other and still make sense (to ourselves) in that nonsense i bet you don't even understand what i just said THAT'S how awesome we are And this is us: Nice photo right? i secretly (not really secretly) want my brother-in-law's camera lens. Priscilla Shirer: Unfinished Business

Been quoting quite some here. Just that there's so much good stuff out there to share. Here's one from Priscilla Shirer :) Unfinished Business Hey there. Glad you've stopped by today. I'm surrounded right now... by dinner dishes, piles of kids' homework, boxes that need to be emptied from moving and clothes that need to go to the dry cleaners. In the midst of it all, I've been struck by a simple phrase from 2 Chronicles 6:8 that I want to share with you. It's Solomon chronicling a conversation God had with his father, David: But the Lord said to my father David, Because it was in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was in your heart." I get so upset when I have something on my to-do list to accomplish, or in my mind and heart to finish and yet... I don't. If time doesn't allow or interruptions get in the way of my intentions, I am often frustrated and discouraged. I feel a bit like I must have wasted time and not maxi

How could God use someone like me?

Was reading Jenetezen Franklin's blog and found this kind of related to my previous post. It goes- Ever ask, "How could God use someone like me?" The Psalmist answers, "For his name's sake"! (Psalm 23:3) Only one name counts- and it's not yours! He continues, writing about humility here .

Vocabulary of Grace by Rachel Starr Thomson

This time, from Boundless , a site for young adults I'm sure we'll be interested in - do go take a look. Again, bolded parts by me (to help with scanning through)! Vocabulary of Grace by Rachel Starr Thomson Growing up, my 11 siblings and I were never allowed to say "shut up." Calling each other names was right out, and "stupid" was anathema — along with most forms of complaining. My parents recognized the power of the tongue and trained us, as best they could, to use ours carefully. As a writer, I deal with the power of words every day. Words damage or heal; impart grace or condemn. On a deep level, they alter the way we see life and respond to challenges. They create safe places or dangerous ones — in my home, thanks to my parents' rules, the overwhelming atmosphere is one of harmony. Of everything in life we tend to be most careless with our words, yet they are powerful and worthy of care. Language of Faith When I was 13 or so, my dad put the kibosh o

Francis Chan: Homeless and excited about it

Read this off Francis Chan's blog. In basics, he was a pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley till he quite recently stepped down as he believed God was calling him elsewhere; it is a walk of faith. Bold parts in the excerpt below are by yours truly. Homeless and excited about it Lisa and I have decided to sell our home. We have begun packing with no idea where we are going. Our family is leaving for Asia in October. The plan is to come back to America at the end of the year. However, we are setting ourselves up so that if we believe we are supposed to stay in Asia longer, we can. We also believe that God will make clear where we should settle down when and if the time comes. We both have times where we feel uneasy, but we are at peace. We are also happy to be living by faith again. Something Lisa asked me the other night was very insightful. She asked, “Why do people think it is so strange that we don’t know what our next step is? It seems like there are many p

Love helps us see our ugliness

Image
You know what's one thing love does? It shows me how ugly I am. For the other to give me so much love, to show so much goodness without wanting any back in return; what I give cannot be compared. It shows me how ugly I am. In contrast to how beautiful that person is, it shows me how ugly I am. I guess. In seeing how ugly we are, we can then see how much we are lacking and in need. That's kinda what happens when we get to know God better. We see how much He loves us, how much He has given to the undeserving us, and so we see how ugly and in need we are. In the light of His beauty, perhaps we are motivated towards beauty. Because. How can we not respond to such a love? While love helps us see our ugliness, maybe we will become better. Because of love. Because of love. Happens with people too, btw. Whether from God or man, love is love. Love works the way it works :)
