You might want to eat this for breakfast tomorrow

Image
Morning. Breakfast time. Open the fridge. No milk to go with cereal. Hong peah stash all gone. Open every other cupboard – bread, peanut butter. Okay. Toast bread. Wait. See pears on table. Hmm. Slice pears thinly. Spread peanut butter on toast. Layer pear slices on top. Crunch. MmmmMMMMM! Soft sweet pear, sweet and salty peanut butter, then crisp, freshly toasted bread. Textures and tastes. Mm. Having it for breakfast again tomorrow. Maybe you'll eat this for breakfast tomorrow. Or maybe tea or supper today ;)

How to choose flowers for your wedding

Image
Quite a few people have been asking about flowers for weddings, so here's sharing from my experience. Our wedding was just over a year back in mid 2014. Both of us don't know much about flowers, and as with our guide for the rest of the wedding – the wedding is just one day, so don't spend too much. But also, it is the one day that you will have once in your life, so don't be stingy. Figure out what is important, and most importantly, make it memorable for you two. Soooo. With flowers... like I said, I don't know much about flowers. But as I researched (hello pinterest), I came across so many good ideas, and started to like flowers more. Do you know how many gazillion types of flowers there are out there? You know these are roses: But how about these. Do you know what they are? They are roses too! Just different kinds of roses. Just roses alone were so much to think of. What helped in picking the flowers is that I don't have any special affinit

Work hazards?

Work-related (un)consciousness: 1. Work email I've been using gmail for personal and freelance projects for the past year. Today, I set up an account for a restaurant I've been freelancing for. Opening Mac Mail, sending an email, seeing that inbox and layout... gosh... it felt good. I think I might have missed that sort of work email/email application. 2. Advertisements Ads pop up all the time when I'm watching videos. If there is an option to click "Skip Ad", I always click it so I don't waste time watching something I am not interested in. But if I forget to click "Skip Ad" because I'm away from my desk at that moment, I actually feel a tad bad because that advertiser probably had to pay a few cents more for an uninterested person who didn't even view the ad. This applies to Facebook as well. I consciously  not click Facebook ads if I am only somewhat interested in them, so they won't have to be paid for. Not my money but, weird

And it was all yellow

Today's lunch theme is... yellow! That's egg and egg tofu coated with flour by the way (:

Korean dramas and the Bible

Image
It's funny but, I think watching Korean historical dramas might have helped me picture some things in the Bible better. Haha. I've been watching Dong Yi. Most of the settings are within the palace where there are a lot of protocols – bowing to higher ranks, having to go through many gateways before you can see the king, the king's absolute authority, and more. It gets a bit tedious at times because it makes the show longer (get to the main plot!), but you really do see the respect and hierarchy in place. ^ Korean King holding a session. Every time he gives a decree, they all bow with their heads to the floor to either appeal it or thank him for his graciousness. ^ ^ Royalty is always surrounded by a gazillion people.  Their guards, eunuchs/ladies-in-waiting, servants... ^ So. Today as I read the book of Jeremiah in the Bible, I read about how the prophet Jeremiah was plotted against because he brought news of God's judgement to people who did not

Every Good Endeavour (Part 2)

Excerpts and part summaries from "Every Good Endeavour" by Timothy Keller: Regarding decision making when there is no "moral compass" in terms of definite right and wrong, which is for about 80% of life: When God's gracious love becomes not an abstract doctrine but a living reality, it means our hearts are less controlled by anxiety and pride, two powerful forces that constantly lead us to unwisely over or under react to situations.   How does the Holy Spirit give you wisdom? See Acts 15:28 in the Bible. They debated until they came up with a sound decision. Then, they attributed that it came from the Holy Spirit. "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and us that..." The Holy Spirit makes Christ a living, bright reality, transforming our character, giving us new inner poise, clarity, humility, boldness, contentment, and courage. All of this leads to increasing wisdom as the years go by, and to better and better professional and personal decisions.

Every Good Endeavour (Part 1)

What did you want to be when you "grew up"? I never really had a fixed ambition, and even now, I can't say I do. I have some sense of what I'm good at and might like to focus on, but I can't say I'm 100% sure (who can?). Abraham Maslow, the guy who came up with the hierarchy of needs , said, "It isn't normal to know what we want. It is a rare and difficult psychological achievement." Well, glad to know I'm "normal". I am definitely in the midst of that, and know friends who are also working out what they want. It probably is a lifelong process – figuring out each step of career, family, personal development and interests, and more. While going through this, I picked out "Every Good Endeavour" from my brother's shelf. Author Timothy Keller writes about the significance of work, the place of our work in God's plan, and helps us discover a little more about our motivations. Here are excerpts and key points I go
