there you go bardee. but uh, it's kinda blurred. yeaps

the purpose driven life
day 34
thinking like a servant

being a servant requires a mental shift, a change in your attitude.

1. servants think about others more than themselves
- true humility : not thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less
- phil 2:7 "(Jesus) made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant..."
- don't try to use God for your purposes
instead, let God use you for his purposes

2. servants think like stewards, not owners
- remember that God owns it all
- 1 cor 4:2 " ...be faithful to their master..."

3. servants think about their work, not what others are doing
- don't compare, criticize or compete
- don't comlpain of unfairness, pity yourselves, or resent those who don't serve. your service to Christ is never wasted, regardless of what others say (eg. mary pouring the most expensive perfume on Jesus' feet)

4. servants bast their identities in Christ
- because they remember that they are loved and accepted by grace, servants don't have to prove their worth
- if you're gonna be a servant, you must settle your identity in Christ. only secure people can serve insecure people are always worrying abouthow they appear to others...the more insecure you are, the more you will need their approval
- henri nouwen, "in order to be of service to others, we have to die to them; that is, we have to give up measuring our meaning and value with the yardstick of others...thus we become free to be compassionate."
- when you base your worth and identity on your relationship to Christ, you are freed from the expectations of others, and that allos you to really serve them best

5. servants think of ministry as an opportunity, not an obligatoin
- hey enjoy helping people, meeting needs, and doing ministry
- psalm 100:2 "serve him with gladness..."

albert scheweitzer : "the only really happy people are those who have learned how to serve."

the end
