The words we speak

The words we speak
Why the words you speak are so important, why you should watch what comes out of your mouth.

1. We should mean what we say. If you don't mean it, don't say it.
Matthew 5:37, James 5:12 "Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no"

2. You know how you're told to read out loud when memorising because when you hear it, it gets into your head better? So the more you say negative stuff, the more negative stuff will get into your head. So hey, why not talk positive? Speak faith.

3. The devil hears you. He might just take you at your word. So don't leave chance for that.

4. Your words show what you're all about.
Luke 6:45 "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks."

5. Out of that same mouth comes praise for God. Make sure your tap is clean.
James 3:9-11"With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?"

Of course there are the occasional jokes. But we must ask for wisdom from God to discern what is acceptable, and what is not.

"May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight, O Lord." – Psalm 19:14

And sometimes, there is wisdom in the words that we choose not to say.
